Hey Daily Dish gals, I want you to meet 12 year old Angel from California. She WON a trip to the American Idol finals, courtesy of Tiger Beat and ShopLyrix.com! Angel got an AWESOME MAKEOVER at the super glam Lyrix showroom in Hollywood where she got to pick out the totally cute outfit she wore to the red carpet and show (plus a bag full of clothes from ShopLyrix.com!).
Angel also got to walk down the carpet to be interviewed like a pop star and meet former Idols as well as this year’s finalists David Cook and David Archuleta! “I had an awesome time getting a head-to-toe makeover from Lyrix and going to the Idol finale,” Angel smiles. “Thank you so much, Tiger Beat!”
Before I go on with yesterday’s behind-the-scenes gossip at the American Idol finale, let’s watch the Jonas Brothers doing an awesome performance of “S.O.S.” at the show:
Okay, so the Idol finale event was totally (as Nick Jonas would say) OFF THE CHAIN! I saw former Idols including Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood and Fantasia rush down the red carpet at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, CA. The show was just about to start when I caught a glimpse of High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale walking in. She looked great in her black top and cream-colored pants. Just as I thought the red carpet was done, I saw the two finalists - David Cook and David Archuleta - getting escorted inside the theater so the show can begin. They walked side-by-side, smiling and enjoying the moment with all their screaming fans.
I got to watch the entire show backstage at the theater where there was a small stage set up for celebrities to go after they leave the main stage. Last year’s winner Jordin Sparks looked so cute in her gold dress, which she said was so much fun to wear. She told me that she’s finally getting used to dressing up and getting all glam for award shows and events, but it’s all with the help of her stylists. She was so happy and excited - like the rest of us - when Ryan Seacrest announced David Cook as the winner! The entire theater screamed, cheered and jumped with excitement, not only for David C. but also for this year’s awesome runner-up David A.
It took a few minutes for David C. to go backstage and talk. He had a huge smile on his face and was still a bit emotional for having his family in the front row supporting him. He really couldn’t believe he had just won the biggest competition of the year. When asked what kind of album he wanted to make, David C. smiled and said, “A good one.” Afterwards, he stopped to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
Next up was David A. who walked in with his signature smile, showing those two cute dimples on his face. Of course everyone asked if he was bummed out that he lost, but David was super sweet and said he was very happy Cook (his nickname for his co-finalist) won the title. “I felt so honored to be standing next to him at the finals,” he said. “It’s an honor.” He also said the new Idol was like an older brother to him. David A. also talked about meeting the Jonas Brothers - he even laughed when someone asked if he was going to be the fourth member of the band - and said they were the nicest guys ever.

The talented singer/beatboxer told me all about what life’s been like after the Idol tour, making his album, and what his plans are for the new year. Blake also made this video just for YOU!
Not only did I get to interview celebs as they arrived to Teen Choice Awards last Sunday, I also got to hang out at the Backstage Creations lounge. This is where award presenters and winners like Miley Cyrus, Lucas Grabeel and Vanessa Hudgens got hooked up with really cool gifts from companies like Sanrio, Wet Seal, Guess shoes, Tiger Electronics and more. Oh my gosh, you guys! Yesterday was so, so unbelievably fun. I’m not sure if you remember, but back in March, I was invited to the American Idol Top 12 party. I had such a blast meeting all of the contestants, so I can’t tell you how cool it was to reunite with them last night and see how far they’ve come! Seriously though, what a night. From Gwen Stefani to Kelly Clarkson to Green Day (Okay, not even I knew that Green Day would be performing!), it was definitely my favorite Idol finale thus far. But enough about the actual show - let me spill some of the secrets I caught from backstage!
You might not have seen him on TV, but which self-proclaimed celeb Idol fan was there in the audience to watch the finale? I’ll give you a hint…his name rhymes with “back” and he’s been on every single Tiger Beat and BOP cover this past year…That’s right, ladies. ZAC EFRON WAS THERE! Let me tell you, his hair is growing back to his signature Troy cut, and he’s looking better than ever. I wonder if he got to catch up with Sanjaya? Last month, the two cuties rocked the red carpet together in Washington DC.
How cool was Blake Lewis’s performance with Doug E. Fresh? You might not know this, but they call him “The Human Beatbox” for a reason. He’s actually one of the earliest beatboxers and Blake told me that he didn’t even mind losing last night because he was so psyched about performing with one of his all-time heroes! It’d kind of be like you performing with Miley Cyrus or Nick Jonas in a few years Anyway, the way the performance came to be is pretty neat. See, Doug E. Fresh is tight with Akon, so he came along to hang with Akon and Gwen Stefani when they were rehearsing for their live performance of “The Sweet Escape.” Blake and Doug E. started beatboxing together, not knowing that the producers were watching. The producers were so impressed that they told them they had to do it again for the finale! And get this – the beatboxing you saw was totally freestyle. Pretty cool, huh!?
Now I’m sure you’re all dying to know what Blake whispered in Jordin Sparks’s ear just before Ryan announced the winner. He told me that he said, “I love you. If comes down to me singing this last song, will you do a duet with me?” Aww! Blake even went on to say that he wanted to wear a “Vote for Jordin” shirt on Tuesday, but the producers wouldn’t let him! Now that’s a team player.
Speaking of Jordin, don’t you love her? I can’t believe she’s only 17. She told me that throughout the competition, she’s still been doing school (three hours a day) and that it’s kept her pretty grounded. She also told me that she was psyched because today is her last day of school! Did you know she’s been a huge Idol fan since the very first season? After Kelly Clarkson won in 2002, she looked up at her mom and said, “Mom, I want to do that someday!” And look at her now. See, dreams do come true - and if you believe in yourself, anything is possible!
