OK, it’s waaaaay past Blog Girl’s bedtime, but I wanted to let you guys know about the Black Eyed Peas concert tonight. It was awesome! I ended up going in a yellow tee, gray sweater and a little tiara in my hair, in honor of the Dutchess herself, Fergie.
We got there just in time to see Frankie J perform. Um, hot. Then Ciara took the stage and boy can that girl dance! She was doing these crazy bend backward moves. She must work out all the time. Big apologies to Danity Kane, who we just missed by a few seconds. We ended up working a bit late on the newest issue of BOP (we wanted it to be perfect!) so we rushed to the arena, but got there too late! ):
However, the Black Eyed Peas rocked the house big-time. When the lights went down, the music started and the crowd began screaming, it was time for them to come onstage. And they did, popping up from under the stage on a riser. They started with “Hey Mama” and kept going non-stop through all of their big hits, like “Don’t Phunk with My Heart” and “Dum Diddly” and “Don’t Lie” and “Disco Club.”
One of the best parts of the show were all the solos that the band did. Taboo came out and performed a song with Frankie J that they dedicated to all the moms in the audience. will.i.am performed “Gone Going,” even singing Jack Johnson’s parts of the song. Did you know that will is a really good singer? He’s also crazy talented, because he played guitar and kicked booty playing the drums with one hand! apl.de.ap came out for his solo and performed “Bebot.”
Then our girl Fergie came out and tore it up with “London Bridge.” She even had some of her dancers come out and do the song with her. During the finale, she performed “Fergalicious” with will and the dancers from the video. It was like watching the video in real life! After the song ended, confetti came down from the ceiling and I totally grabbed some to take home.
Biggest highlights from the show:
1. Fergie’s outfit changes (three) were superstylin’. She started the show in a light green Juicy-esque sweat suit with a black tank. Then she changed into an orange bikini top and capris with a tiara (hey, just like me!). Finally, she ended up in a cute little black top, denim capris and a long braided ponytail that she kept flipping around.
2. The “Shut Up” performance. Fergie got so into the song that it looked like she was going to cry when will was singing, but then she just started singing and did four one-armed cartwheels! Crazy!
3. In the middle of “Don’t Lie,” Fergs began to sing the classic 80s rock hit, “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” by Guns ‘n’ Roses. She sounded great as a rock singer!
4. During “Where Is the Love,” the BEPs asked the crowd to hold up their cell phones, so the entire arena (and we’re talking a HUGE arena, the Staples Center in Los Angeles) was lit up with cell phone glow. It looked really cool.
5. The band was psyched to be in their hometown of L.A. In fact, it was their last concert of their tour, and they were proud to end it in their town. The group sang lots of little songs about California in between their hits. Fergie was so proud of her hometown that she wore a gold “LA*CA” necklace during the show.
It was finally the end of the show after the group sang “My Humps,” which Fergie performed in a high-pitch girly girl voice. It was pretty funny. For their last song, “Let’s Get It Started,” they brought their buddy Wilmer Valderrama out onstage to sing along. There was also a giant inflatable monkey head on the stage (no joke!) and Fergie and a pal who also came onstage started batting it back and forth. That girl has energy to spare even after a long concert!
But OMG, we heard some amazing BEP news from will himself at the end of the show! He said the new Black Eyed Peas album will be out CHRISTMAS 2007! “We are NOT breaking up!” will shouted!
We hope not, ’cause we can’t wait for the next concert! Big thanks to the BEPs for giving us our tickets!
